Rust in 30 seconds

Published on Jan 31, 2022 by Arpad Ray

The Rust programming language is an enormous achievement. It's already comparable to C++ in performance and productivity, but also solves whole classes of bugs which have plagued the world of software security and reliability for decades.

It's so popular and the ecosystem seemingly so well developed, that it's easy to overlook just how much active development the language is undergoing.

Over 100,000 Git commits to the rust-lang/rust repo visualized in a 30 second video.

The video above shows how the top contributors to the rust-lang/rust repo have changed over time. That's over 100,000 Git commits and nearly 12 years of development, condensed into 30 seconds.

I've created this video using our "Time and Influence" poster design. I'm hoping we can soon include this kind of video directly as part of our product offering, but for now this design is available as a static poster (either a download or a framed print).
